Terms for Thermin internal test builds and related support pages.

About these terms

Thermin is provided by John Cotter. By using an authorized copy, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it. A parent or guardian must review these terms for anyone unable to enter an agreement where they live. Your mandatory consumer rights remain in place.

Permission to use the instrument

You may install and use an authorized copy on a device you own or control, subject to applicable store rules. You may share music you create with it. Do not unlawfully redistribute or sell the app, misrepresent it as your work, remove ownership notices or violate others' rights. Rights granted by open-source licenses and activities permitted by law are not restricted by these terms.

Internal testing and device support

This is an experimental instrument for invited testers. Camera tracking, sound latency and device compatibility are still being evaluated. Availability through internal testing does not mean the app has completed public release qualification. Features may change or be discontinued, subject to applicable law. There is no promise of a public release date or support for every phone.

Playing and your device

Start at low device volume and use a comfortable listening level. Set your phone securely before camera play. Use Mute to stop output; stop using the app if sound or tracking behaves unexpectedly. Bluetooth audio can add delay. Camera mode requires suitable lighting, landscape orientation and calibration. Touch is an alternative when the camera is unavailable.

Calibration and settings in this build reset when the app restarts. It does not record, save or export music and offers no account or cloud recovery. Operating-system permissions and media volume remain under your control.

Planned advertising and Supporter Package

The public edition is planned to be free with ads. The current internal test build has no ads or purchases. A possible Supporter Package, including ad removal, is not yet defined or offered for sale. Its price and any additional benefits are TBD; no payment or entitlement is promised by this test build.

Privacy, support and ownership

Read the privacy policy for local camera processing and external service boundaries. Contact support@johncotter.io for support, or contact@johncotter.io for privacy requests. Do not send material you do not have permission to share.

John Cotter and the relevant licensors retain their rights to the app and included components. See open-source notices. Google operates Google Play under its own terms and is not the publisher of Thermin.

Responsibility and changes

To the extent permitted by law, Thermin is provided as is and as available without a promise of uninterrupted or error-free operation or suitability for every purpose. To that same extent, we exclude implied warranties and liability for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing excludes or limits rights, remedies, warranties or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

You may stop using Thermin at any time. A material breach may end your permission to use it, subject to applicable law. This does not give us remote access to your device. Revisions will appear here with an updated date and additional notice or agreement where required. Changes do not remove rights that have already arisen; unenforceable provisions do not invalidate the remainder.
