Play with touch
Start with low media volume. Press Play, hold one finger in Pitch and another at the bottom of Volume, then raise the Volume finger. Move across Pitch to change the note. Lifting either finger mutes. Use Mute to stop and Play or Resume to begin again. Opening Settings pauses output; closing it does not automatically resume sound.
Play with the camera
Rotate to landscape and choose Camera. Allow camera permission if you want camera play; declining leaves touch available. Use even lighting and a steady phone. Follow the four silent captures: pitch hand farther away, then closer; volume hand quiet, then loud. Keep the full hand visible and still during each capture. After calibration, show both hands with the volume hand in QUIET, then raise it to play. Hold the pitch hand angle steady because distance is estimated from palm size.
After tracking loss, return the volume hand to QUIET with both hands clearly visible. If you selected Mute, choose Resume first. A camera without a supported timestamp source falls back to touch. Settings and calibration reset when the app process ends. Recalibrate after changing position, phone rotation or lighting.
No sound or unexpected behavior
Check Android media volume, the selected speaker or headphones, Play/Resume, and the volume hand's quiet position. Bluetooth can add substantial delay. Another app, a call, backgrounding or an output-route change can interrupt play. Return to Thermin and explicitly resume. Use Mute if output behaves unexpectedly.
Report an internal test
Email support@johncotter.io with your phone model, Android version, app version from Settings, audio route and steps to reproduce. Say whether touch or camera was selected and whether restarting helped. Do not include passwords, account details or other people's images. Screenshots are optional.
Camera quality, physical audio latency, sustained load and accessibility are still being tested. The build currently offers free pitch and a pure sine sound; scale lock, recording and saved profiles are not included. Google Play access is limited to invited internal testers. A disabled Coming soon button is not a public download link.
Privacy
The app processes camera input locally and does not use the microphone. Read the privacy policy or contact contact@johncotter.io.
