Who provides Thermin
Thermin is an Android musical instrument provided by John Cotter, current package io.johncotter.theramin (older development copies used com.thermin.app). This policy covers the 0.1.19 internal test build and these support pages. Privacy questions: contact@johncotter.io. App support: support@johncotter.io.
Optional camera input
Thermin asks for camera permission only when you choose camera mode. The front camera and bundled MediaPipe hand model process images and hand landmarks on your device to control pitch and volume. Frames, landmarks and calibration values are held temporarily in memory; our app does not save images or landmarks, identify people, or upload them. Camera capture stops when the app leaves the foreground or you leave camera play. Touch mode works without camera permission. Revoke permission at any time in Android Settings.
App data and retention
This build keeps instrument settings and calibration in memory. They reset when the app process ends. It has no account, cloud save, recording library, advertising, purchases, analytics SDK or automatic crash-upload service. It requests no microphone, contacts, location or media-library permission. The packaged app has no internet or network-state permission. Its model is included in the download and does not require a first-launch download. App backup is disabled. Android may maintain normal installation, permission and system diagnostic records under your device settings.
Store, browser and website services
Google Play processes app downloads, updates, tester participation and any diagnostics you share with Google under Google's policies. Links in Settings open your chosen browser. The browser and the infrastructure serving johncotter.io receive ordinary web-request information such as IP address, requested page and browser information to deliver and secure these pages. These pages have no advertising or analytics scripts. These external services are distinct from the app's local camera processing.
Information you send for support
If you email us, we and our email providers receive your address, message and attachments. We use them to respond and investigate the issue. Include only what is needed; do not send camera images of other people without permission. We retain correspondence only as long as needed for support, related issues or legal obligations, and may disclose it when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. You can request access, correction or deletion of correspondence by emailing contact@johncotter.io, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Your choices and younger users
Decline camera permission and use touch, stop camera mode, close the app to discard its in-memory session, or uninstall it. We have no server copy of your calibration to restore. A parent or guardian should handle support requests and external links for a child. We do not ask for a birth date or collect personal information from children through the app. Contact us if a child has sent information that should be removed.
Planned public edition
The public edition is planned to be free with advertising. This internal test build has no advertising SDK and does not request ads. A possible Supporter Package to remove ads and provide additional benefits is still being defined; it is not offered for purchase. Before ads or purchases are introduced, we will update this policy to describe the actual services, data practices and available choices. Planned features do not change this build's local camera processing.
Changes
We will update this page when the app's data practices change and provide additional notice or choices where required. This policy describes the features of the stated build; planned recording, persistence or other future features are not present.
