Who we are
SnakeBack is developed by John Cotter ("we," "us"). This policy explains local gameplay, optional Supporter Pack purchases where available, and information you choose to send for support. Availability and purchase options depend on your platform and store.
Information saved on your device
The app saves the information it needs to run the game and let you return to it:
- Journey progress, saved boards, recent results, and an active game.
- Your Classic run and best scores, earned cosmetics, and selected skin.
- Settings such as controls, pace, sound, appearance, and accessibility preferences.
- Challenge boards you choose to import, and optional local diagnostic events.
- Your Supporter Pack ownership, selected collection, and purchase information needed to remember or restore access, including product and transaction identifiers, purchase status, and receipt data supplied by the store.
These records are stored in the app's local storage. We do not operate an account system, cloud-save service, or online leaderboard for the current app, and we cannot remotely access or restore your saves. Your device or operating system may include app data in backups according to your settings.
Optional diagnostics and sharing
Local diagnostics is off by default. If you enable it in Settings, the app keeps up to 100 recent technical events, such as a delayed frame, a failed level, or a skin update error. These events help investigate problems and are not automatically uploaded.
Copy support diagnostics copies the current diagnostic events and app/rules versions to your clipboard. Copying alone does not send them to us. You decide whether to paste and share them, and with whom. Challenge codes also use an explicit copy action so you can share a board. The service you use to send a message handles that message under its own privacy policy.
Purchases and app-store services
The Supporter Pack is an optional one-time purchase of three cosmetic collections. Where checkout is available, Google Play or Apple's App Store handles the transaction using your store account. We do not receive your payment-card details. The app requests product information, checks ownership when opened or resumed, and uses the store to complete or restore purchases. These store features may need an internet connection; ordinary gameplay does not.
Android uses Google Play Billing and its supporting libraries, including Google's data transport component. These libraries send Google purchase-service requests and technical events to operate, diagnose and improve billing. This processing includes purchase identifiers and status, generated billing-client and request identifiers, billing interactions, results, errors and timing, app and operating-system versions, device model and build details, language/country settings, and network/carrier information. The billing libraries initialize when the app opens, so technical processing can occur even if you do not buy the pack. This does not upload your Journey or Classic saves, scores, or local gameplay log.
Android requests internet and network-state access for these services, billing permission for purchases, and vibration for optional haptic feedback. Turning off SnakeBack's Local diagnostics setting controls our local gameplay log; it does not disable the store's own processing. Parents and guardians can manage purchase approvals for supervised child accounts through Google Play's parental controls.
On iOS, purchase-enabled builds use Apple's StoreKit to obtain product information and verified purchase entitlements. Restore may ask you to authenticate with Apple. Store purchase records are managed by the relevant store; removing local app data does not delete those records or issue a refund. See Google's privacy policy and Apple's privacy policy for their services and privacy choices.
Information we do not request
Playing SnakeBack does not require your name, email, contacts, location, photos, camera, microphone, or payment-card details. The app has no ads or cross-app advertising tracking, and we do not operate a gameplay analytics or automatic crash-reporting service. Optional store processing is described above.
We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. Apple, Google, or your device manufacturer may separately process information for operating systems, backups, diagnostics and store distribution under their own policies and your device settings.
If you contact us
If you send a support or privacy message, we receive the contact details and information you choose to provide, such as your message, screenshots, or copied diagnostics. We use that information to respond, investigate the issue, and meet applicable legal obligations. Please send only what is needed to explain your request.
Our communication providers process messages to deliver and store correspondence. We may also disclose information if required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to handle the request, resolve related issues, or meet legal obligations, then delete it.
Retention and deletion
- Game data: saves remain on your device until you reset or remove them. Settings > Reset all progress clears your adventures, Classic run and scores, earned cosmetics, settings, and local gameplay records. This cannot be undone.
- Supporter Pack: resetting gameplay preserves the separate purchase cache and your selected collection. These records remain until replaced by a store check or removed with the app's local storage. A successful store check can remove access after a refund or a change of store account. Cached access can remain while offline. Use Restore with the original store account to recover an eligible purchase.
- Diagnostics: turning Local diagnostics off stops recording and clears the active log. A previous recovery copy may remain until a later save replaces it. Reset all progress clears both game-save copies.
- All app storage: use your device's app-data controls or remove the app to clear its local files. Device backups and copies you have shared must be managed separately through the relevant device or service.
- Messages sent to us: email contact@johncotter.io to request access, correction, or deletion. We will handle requests in accordance with applicable law and explain any required retention.
Local files rely on your device's storage protections. Keep your device secure, especially if you share it. No storage or communication method can guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
The app's offline design does not require players to submit personal information, regardless of age. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through support. A parent or guardian should handle support requests for a child and can contact us about information a child may have sent.
These web pages
Viewing this policy is separate from playing offline. Your browser sends normal connection information, including your IP address and the requested page, to our hosting provider to load the website. The provider may process operational or security logs. These SnakeBack policy pages do not use analytics scripts, advertising cookies, or externally hosted fonts. If you follow a link to another website, that site's privacy practices apply.
Changes and contact
We will update this page and its date if these practices change. If a future feature needs additional disclosure or consent, we will provide it before the relevant collection begins.
